Twill Tape
Twill tape cannot be used as bone casing as is not strong enough or dense
enough for this use and bones will work holes in it very quickly. Twill
tape does not have the stiffness or weight required for waistband either.
However, it can be used as a waist stay to reinforce the waist and high
stress area of a corset. It is also useful for making hoop steel casings
in farthingales and hoop skirts, not to mention hanging loops and label
loops.
We only stock our most popular sizes of twill tape at our LA location.
We offer it in polyester in natural (white) or black — 19mm or
25mm, and 25mm unbleached cotton. See price
list above for
available products.
Petersham Ribbon
Petersham ribbon can be used for a few things; such as to create a strong
waist stay in a corset, to bind corset edges or hat brims and for
waistbands on petticoats and skirts or as a foundation for neck ruffs.
Petersham is
a ribbed ribbon with bumpy edges, smooth edged ribbons will not work
for binding curved edges as found in corsets and hats. Our petersham
is a cotton
viscose blend which means it can easily be shaped with the warmth
of an iron.
Available in white or black 78-7640-01 and 78-7640-90. See price list above for
available products.
Soft petersham ribbon is also available. Great for binding edges of corsets or hats, good for corset waist stays but too soft for skirt waistbands. 100% cotton, white or black. 78-7618-01-90 (3/4") to 70-7650-01-90 (2")
Bias Tape
Bias tape is fabric tape, which has been cut on the bias of the fabric
rather than with the grain or across the grain. The advantage of
bias tape, is that it can bind a curved edge without puckering or pulling.
It can
also be used to make piping or covered cord.
Our bias tape is 100%
cotton and comes in white or black, and in three widths.
Our bias tape has no
folds, so that you can use it in any way you need to. See price list above for available products.
See our Tips & Tricks section for
instructions for using bias tape or Petersham ribbon to bind the edge
of a corset.
