Spiral bones are made of steel, looking as if a fine
coiled steel has been flattened. They are available
in two sizes, ¼”(6mm)
and 7/16”(10mm). The ¼” 47-8000-series comes
in pre-tipped pieces. 28-8001-96 comes in 55 yd coils.
Spiral bones offer the most flexibility of all bones, being
able to move both forwards and backwards and side
to side. They're the best choice for a corset or bodice that
requires boning but
is going to be worn for dance or other motion activities.
They are not a good choice for front panels of bodices or corsets
for women who wear a “C” cup or more, unless you
are using the 7/16" size. Spiral bones are the most flexible
and least supportive of all bones. Bodices or corsets
made with these bones may be hand washed, but not machine washed.
Bone tips are Aluminum caps that go on the
raw ends of spiral metal corset bones or even
white spring steel boning. When you need to
cut bones down in length, or when you purchase
a full coil of Spiral boning, this is the product
you need to finish the job off.
Spiral
bones which have been cut down or purchased by
the yard must be tipped with Bone Tips.
